The area is a haven for nature-lovers.  The house is just up the road from the River Vendée which is great for picnic spots and river dips.  The Poitevin marshes, known as the Green Venice of the West, where you can punt along the canals and quietly watching the flora and fauna as you slide past.  Meanwhile, Mervent forest is the ideal spot for walking, horse-riding and cycling.

Fontenay is 25miles inland from the Vendée coastline.  La Rochelle and the stunning Ile-de-Ré are both under an hour away.  Poitiers if a one hour drive as is Nantes.
